Carriage Driving Competitions
Taxonomy Code: PL-8000.1800-150
Equestrian events that feature horse driving competitions. Carriage drivers may utilize ponies, miniature horses, regular horses of different breeds, or draft horses which are driven as singles, in tandem teams, in pairs or four in hand. Pleasure driving competitions evaluate the appearance, gait, manners, and way of going of the horse; and the appropriateness, condition and fit of the vehicle and harness. Combined driving competitions are patterned after the equestrian sport of three day eventing and generally involve driven dressage, a marathon and an obstacle course which is set up using cones. Included are organizations that sponsor, organize, hold, promote, sell tickets to and publicize the events; provide information about competition schedules; and/or maintain information about current standings.
