Description:

The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank is a leading private non-profit food relief organization for the past 27 years. Charity Navigator has rated The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank as a four star charity for ten consecutive years. The Foodbank!€™s 240 member agencies network covers 9 cities and counties in North Hampton Roads. Our grassroots efforts make it possible to distribute over 9.6 million pounds of food last year.
The service area includes Gloucester County, Mathews County, Surry, Hampton, Newport News Williamsburg, James City County, Poquoson, and York County.

One-time assistance is offered on-site then provides referrals to mobile & community distribution sites. Diapers, toiletries and cleaning supplies also distributed when availalble.

Intake Process:

Food distribution is primarily done by partner agencies food pantries.

                                      Special Notes/Funding

                                      The Summer Food Service Program provides up to two meals a day, free of charge, for children through the age of 18 living in low-income areas.                                       Eligibility

                                      Children are automatically eligible if they meet the following criteria: ---Participate in SNAP, Head Start or TANF ---Are migrant, runaway, or homeless Persons with disabilities, over age 18, who participate in school programs for people who are mentally or physically disabled also qualify for the Program. At certain sites meals are available only to children whose families meet the income standard for free or reduced-price meals. That income standard is: Maximum Gross Household Income ---One person household: $21,257 ---Two person household: $28,694 ---Three person household: $36,131 ---Four person household: $43,568 ---Five person household: $51,005 ---Six person household: $58,442 ---Seven person household: $65,879 ---Eight person household: $73,316
