Description:

We provide free legal services in civil matters to qualifying low-income Virginians.

Examples of Civil Cases accepted include but are not limited to:
---Divorce/Protective Orders
---Custody/Visitation/Child Assistance
---Landlord-Tenant Matters
---SSI Appeals
---Contracts and Warranties
---Collections
---Public Benefit Denials
---Power of Attorney/Wills

Assistance is not available for criminal or traffic matters.

Intake Process:

Applications can be completed in person or over the phone at the specified times, or online.

Accepted applicants will be forwarded to an attorney who will contact the applicant to advise them on what kind of assistance is available.
---This can range from counsel and advice over the phone or by letter, to representation in court.
---It typically takes several business days to hear from an attorney, unless an applicant have a court case pending in the next few days in which case they will try to look at the case sooner.
---In some cases, applicants will be told that they are eligible, but later told that assistance cannot be provided. Limited funding prevents Legal Aid from providing legal services to every resident in our service area who requests such assistance.

Program Fees:

All services are offered free of charge.

Eligibility:

Clients to receive these services must be considered low AMI . your screening will determine your financial eligibility. Once considered eligible additional work will be done to assist you with your needs.
